 Ana Ramos- English Biography

CREATIVE DIRECTOR. COSTUME DESIGNER.

Ana Ramos Aguayo holds a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts  Complutense University of Madrid, specialized in painting, photography and set design.

She is the International Master of Costume and Set design at the Complutense University of Madrid and has been an Honorary Fellow in the departments of Painting and Drawing, Design and Image Arts of the same university. She also develops her activities as designer and photographer participating in many projects and exhibitions of painting and photography since 2006.

 

Interested in her passion, the world of costume design and fashion, she has done several courses in clothing, costume design, pattern design, fashion, costume sociology, protocol and professional make up as a complement to her knowledge. She has received several artistic scholarships such as the Albarrací­n Landscape Scholarship awarded by the Santa Marí­a de Albarrací­n Foundation.

She began her professional experience in the performing arts, participating in the creation and setting of set designs. She started with the set design of Shrek El Musical, designed by Miguel R. Massip and premiered at the Teatro Apolo in Madrid; and the Zarzuela Luisa Fernanda designed by Alejandro Contreras and directed by Ignacio Garcí­a; premiered at the Palacio de Congresos de Valencia and at the Principal Theater of Castellón.

Later she participated in the design of the set of Il Trovatore with Ignacio García, an opera directed by him and premiered at the FIBES in Seville; represented in the Baluarte of Pamplona, at the Quijano Theater in Ciudad Real, Armando Palacio Valdés Theater in Avilés, Cervantes Theater in Málaga among other theaters in Spain.

 

She began her work as a costume designer in the production El Halcón Maltéss, at the Guiniguada Theater of Las Palmas of Gran Canaria. She designed and created the props for Pinocho, El musical directed by Gustavo Tambascio. Her first International work was the costume design of the opera Mephistopheles directed by Michal Znaniecki and premiered at the National HNK Theater in Croatia, in Split.

In 2015, she premiered Faust, at the Hungarian National Opera in Budapest directed by Michal Znaniecki; also she designed with Alejandro Contreras the set design of L'elisir d'amorepremiered at the Teatro Rojas de Toledo; also designed the costumes of Vacío, a drama premiered at the Sala La Usina, Madrid (Festival Surge) directed by Toni Garcí­a and Coral Igualador and the Set and costumes of the opera La Bohème, directed by by Sandra Martinovic at the Jovellanos Theater in Gijón at the International Opera Studio. Also in December 2015, she worked as Invited Costume designer, Costume designer Assistant of Giusy Giustino at Il Trovatore, premiered at the Israel Opera in Tel aviv and directed by Michal Znaniecki.

 

In 2016 he premiered La Sonnambula, directed by Ignacio Garcí­a at the Jovellanos Theater in Gijón and in September Un Ballo in Maschera directed by Zosia Dowjat and Michal Znaniecki, also premiered at the Jovellanos Theater in Gijón, Asturias; both projects for the II International Opera Studio. In September she premiered Nabucco, an opera directed by Ignacio Garcí­a, premiered at the Teatro Cervantes in Málaga. In October she premiered the operas Volo di Notte and Il Prigioniero at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Argentina, both operas directed by Michal Znaniecki.

 

In 2017, the operas Bastien und Bastienne and Il Maestro di Capella directed by Diego Carvajal and part of the Little Opera of Zamora Festival, which premiered at the Teatro Principal de Zamora. She also designed the costumes and props for Colombine, drama directed by Juan Francisco Viruega, which premiered at the Teatro Apolo in Almerí­a. In November she premiered a new opera project, Rigoletto,directed by Ignacio Garcí­a with a premiere at the Teatro Afundación de Vigo.

 

2018 come up with projects such as the ballets The Wooden Prince and The Wonderful Mandarin and the opera Bluebeard's Castle, by Bela Bartok whose premiere took place at the Bartok Plusz Opera Festival, at the National Theater in Miskolc, Hungary all directed by Michal Znaniecki also in these operas was Set designer Assistant of the Italian set designer Luigi Scoglio. In July she premiered Marcos de Obregón in the 41st Edition of the International Festival of Classical Theatre of Almagro, directed by Amparo Pascual, whose premiere was at the Old Renaissance University (AUREA) in Almagro. Also in July she premiered the operas La Cambiale di Matrimonio and A Hand of bridge directed by Diego Carvajal at the Little Opera Festival Zamora 2018.

 

In Autumn she premiered Birdy-Ptaziek a dance show by the dancer and choreographer Volodymyr Ryga at the Debiut w monodramie Festival in Roszalin, Poland; In November she premiered Macbeth at the Teatro García Barbón- Afundación of Vigo, directed by Ignacio García. Later in December she has premiered Ali Babá the musical at Teatro Circo of Albacete and is now on Spanish tour.

In 2019 she premiered the 30 TEMPORADA L͍RICA of Cervantes Theatre of Málaga directed by Ignacio Garcí­a and in June she premiered  YO, CLAVDIO at Teatro Romano de Mérida directed by Marta Eguilior. In July she premiered Siempre pí­caros, directed by the actor and Spanish director Jose Antonio Sayagués, drama which opens the summertime programme of the Salamanca University (USAL) during the days 3, 4 and 5 of July at the Juan del Enzina Theatre of Salamanca.

In October she premiered the costumes for Il Barbiere di Seviglia directed by Eugenia Corbacho and premiered at the Teatro Garcí­a Barbón- Afundación of Vigo. In December she premiered the opera La Bohème directed by Diego Carvajal premiered at the Teatro Real of Madrid with the Excelentia Foundation and Cofares Foundation.

During 2020 she premiers the zarzuela La del manojo de Rosas,directed by Francisco Matilla premiered at Teatro Municipal de Tomelloso. The proyects and shows that were going to take place during these year have been postponed to 2021 due to the restrictions of the pandemia.

2021 Begins with the premiere of the opera La Traviata, as costume designer and assistant director. The premiere took place at the  Auditorio & Palacio de Congresos of Zaragoza. This summer she will premiere a new Trovatore at the Ducal Place of Medinaceli, Soria. In this production she is in charge of the costume design.

During summer 2021, she premieres Don Pasquale, opera directed by  por Eugenia Corbacho, which premiere will take place in July in Mallorca. She has designed the costumes of the opera Il Trovatore, directed by Ignacio García and premiered at the Ducal Palace of Medinaceli, Soria.

 

Recently she has designed the costumes for the flamenco dance show Epu Mapu, show of the dancer and choreographer Pedro Fdez Embrujo and directed by Arlette Ibarra. Her upcoming costume design work will be the next 18th September when she will premiere Carmen opera will be directed by Alejandro Contreras and the premiere will be at Auditorio of Zaragoza. In addition, she has designed the costumes for Bailando con Carmen composed by Óscar de Manue, ópera flamenca directed by Ignacio Garcia which premiere took place at Circo Theatre of Albacete past 29th October. 

In December, she premiered Cavalleria Rusticana at the Teatro real of Madrid, where she was in charge also of the stage direction and  the costumes.

In 2022, her latest works of costume design and assisant direction are the operas Rigoletto and la Bohème.

In june worked at the costume design of her first film Amanece, the first film of the director Juan Francisco Viruega.

In August premiered Miles Gloriosus, directed by Pep Antón Gómez premiered at Teatro Romano of Mérida the 3rd of August, part of 68º Festival de Teatro Clásico de Mérida. Also with Spanish tour at the main theatres. From 26 October to 27 November the production is settled at Teatro Reina Victoria of Madrid, with shows each day. Now in 2024 they have played more than 100 shows.

Recently in November has premiered  Tango Tirao  the musical, by the composer Julián Santos musical directed by Diego Carvajal which premiered took place at Teatro Vico of Jumilla. Days 16 and 17 of December will premier Adiós a la bohemia, directed by Ignacio García with premiere at Teatro Victoria Eugenia of San Sebastián. 

2023 has began with great success with the premiere of Aida with Fundación Excelentia. Directed by Alejandro Contreras. Ana has designed the costumes and made the Assistance direction of the opera. In February she has premiered the costumes of the Zarzuela Los Gerifaltes, directed by Diego Carvajal and premiered in Jumilla, Murcia. Following this premiere she keeps on doing tour dates with several operas: Aida, Bohème until April. when she will premiere the opera La Traviata, of Producciones Telón production where she designs the costumes and is Assistant director again. Following this she continues with her opera tours doing Nabucco, Rigoletto, Aida.. until May. The month of two new premieres: One with Fundación Excelentia, the opera Madame Butterfly which premiere will take place at Kursaal in San Sebastián, directed by Alejandro Contreras, new project where she designs the costumes and is Assistant director too.  Also a new production of the Spanish Zarzuela Luisa Fernanda which premiere will take place in Tomelloso, Ciudad Real and will be directed by Antonio Torres. 

In September, she premiered the musical and comedy show Whatsup 2, directed by Juanma Cifuentes, whose premiere took place at the Teatro de la Paz in Albacete, during the cultural programming of the Albacete Fair. She also premiered the costumes for La Verbena de la Paloma, for RTVE, which was directed by Diego Carvajal with a premiered on September 29th at CAEM, Salamanca.

She especially highlights the premiere of the film Amanece, her first costume design for film and the first feature film by filmmaker Juan Francisco Viruega, premiered at the 71st Edition of the San Sebastián Film Festival, for which Ana designed the costumes.

In October she premiered Cavalleria Rusticana and I Pagliacci, both operas directed by Ignacio García, Ana designed her costumes and she was Assistant's director. The premiere took place at the Teatro Quijano in Ciudad Real on October 5th. She designed The zarzuela costumes of La Revoltosa where she worked as Assistant director too, this zarzuela was directed by Alejandro Contreras. In November she premiered the costumes and was in charge of the executive production of the opera Don Pasquale, whose premiere took place at the Afundación theater in Vigo with stage direction by Eugenia Corbacho. She also premiered the drama show El tiempo inventado, with its premiere was at the Liceo Theater in Salamanca with direction of José Antonio Sayagués. Among other projects of the year, we highlight the zarzuela Los Gavilanes with the Company Lírica Alicantina premiered in December 2023.

2024 begins with the premiere La Gran Vía and Adiós a la Bohemia days 22th and 24th of February. The premiere is he will at the Campoamor Theater in Oviedo. These Zarzuelas are directed by Ignacio García at the XXXI Spanish Lyrical Festival of Zarzuela of Oviedo.

On the other hand She also premieres Nabucco on February 22 at the Teatro Quijano in Ciudad Real and on the 24th La Traviata

in Muxikebarri, in Getxo, Vizcaya, both productions with Producciones Telón.

Recently, his costume designs stand out for La Gran Vía and Adiós a la bohemia directed by Ignacio García, premiered at the Campoamor Theater in Oviedo within the XXXI Spanish Lyrical Festival of Zarzuela on February 22 and 24.

 

In April 2024 she became a member of the Academy of Performing Arts of Spain.

He will soon premiere Il Trovatore at the Teatro Amaia Kultur Zentroa on May 11, an opera for which he will direct the scene and be in charge of the costumes, with a production by the Luis Mariano Lyric Association of Irún together with Producciones Telón.

At the same time, she combines her work as a costume designer and costume designer with her creations as a multidisciplinary artist.

Since 2021, she has shown her  interest in stage direction. Performing in addition to her passion as costume designer and artist, the work of assistant director, training in this new field. Ana Ramos develops costume design, styling and character creation, design and scenic painting, creative direction, production, directing assistance and management of shows thanks to her extensive training in fine arts, music and her experience in opera and theater.
